Poway and Rancho
Bernardo are two highly desirable communities in Southern California. Both are
considered part of the greater San Diego metro area and are located within San Diego
County. Poway has an estimated population of 49,115 residents and Rancho Bernardo
has 41,000.
The city of Poway is conveniently located in the center of the county just east of
Interstate 15, about twenty miles northeast of San Diego. It enjoys a warm sunny
climate, clean air, a pristine lake and ecological reserves. Poway is nestled
between two valleys and offers incredible panoramic views of the surrounding
foothills and mountains. Residents enjoy tranquil country living while having
all of the conveniences of a major city at their doorstep.
Poway began as an important link in the 1800s as an integral part of the Southern
California stagecoach network. Today, it is still known for its horsepower...both
equine and economic. Poway has over 78 miles of trails for horseback riding. The
majority of the trails have been around longer than Poway has been a city.
Crosswalks at some busy intersections have two sets of buttons, one at the standard
human level and the second placed higher, within reach of a mounted rider who wants
to trot across without leaving the saddle.
The might of Poway's business community is also known throughout the state and
nation. The Poway Business Park is home to 404 companies employing nearly 16,000
people. The business park spreads over 2,500 acres along the edge of Scripps Poway
Parkway. The park is home to prominent companies as ResMed, First
American Credco, and Geico Direct. According to the San Diego Association of
Governments, Poway's median household income ranks third in San Diego County,
behind only Solana Beach and Del Mar. The median household income is $73,527 per
year.
Attractions in this family-oriented community include Old Poway Park, 5-acre
grounds showcasing turn-of-the-century buildings, walking trails, gazebo,
restaurant, the Heritage Museum and working period steam locomotives. The Poway
Center for the Performing Arts host professional and community entertainment
throughout the year. The Blue Sky Ecological Reserve, an unspoiled canyon set
aside for wildlife by the State Department of Fish and Game. Lake Poway & Clyde E.
Rexrode Wilderness Area, this 50-acre lake is stocked for fishing and features
sailing, boating, play areas, picnic grounds and trails. The Bernardo Winery and
the weekly Farmer's Market are also local favorites.
Rancho Bernardo is located 20 minutes inland from the Pacific Ocean and enjoys an
almost perfect year-round climate. It is a premiere master-planned San Diego
suburban community built out in the early 1990's. It has a unique balanced mixture
of natural and human-created beauty. Located on over 5,800 acres, 25 miles north of
downtown San Diego, Rancho Bernardo has been developed into a variety of
"neighborhoods" each with its own distinctive personality and characteristics.
The opportunities for housing in "RB", as the locals call it, are in the resale
market or home and apartment rental. This master planned community consists of 18
subdivisions of upscale single-family, patio, and luxury custom homes, 10
condominium communities and three apartment complexes. Pricing for condominiums begin at $255,000, patio homes start at $300,000, family homes average $698,000 and
luxury homes start at $800,000.
Westfield Shopping Town North County, the largest indoor shopping mall in San Diego,
is just one exit up I-15. Residents can discover just about every thing imaginable
minus a major department store on Carmel Mountain Road without even getting on a
freeway. There is a blossoming Technology Center along West Bernardo Drive between
Rancho Bernardo Road and Bernardo Center Drive. Here major employers such as Sony,
Hewlett-Packard, NCR, BAE Systems, SAIC, GDE Systems, Unisys, Siemens, call home.
Poway Unified School District serves both Poway and Rancho Bernardo and is
nationally recognized as one of the finest in the entire state. Students perform in
the top percentages on both state and local testing. In addition, a community
college education center is situated locally; major universities and regional
community colleges are also within a short commute.
Both of these communities are exceptional places to live, work, retire or raise a
family! They are respected as safe communities with some of the lowest crime rates
throughout California. Poway and Rancho Bernardo both offer access to a top-notch
business environment and a high quality of life. If you are considering moving here
